The Critical Role of Magnesium Oxide in Electronic Ceramics: From MLCCs to 5G Devices

In the core components of smartphones, 5G base stations, and electric vehicles, electronic ceramics play an indispensable role—and high-purity Magnesium Oxide is the key "hidden hero" that enhances the performance of these materials.

Electronic ceramics are typically based on barium titanate, alumina, and other primary raw materials. Adding just 0.1% to 10% high-purity Magnesium Oxide (purity ≥99%) during production can significantly improve the microstructure and electrical properties of the final product. First, as a sintering aid, magnesium oxide effectively lowers the sintering temperature and promotes densification, resulting in finer, more uniform ceramic grains. This greatly enhances insulation performance—volume resistivity can exceed 10¹⁴ Ω·cm, effectively preventing current leakage in electronic components.

Magnesium oxide stabilizes the dielectric constant and reduces dielectric loss, ensuring that capacitors and sensors maintain reliable signal transmission across a wide temperature range. This property is particularly critical in the manufacturing of multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs), which are widely used in consumer electronics and automotive electronics. Additionally, in low-temperature co-fired ceramics (LTCC) and ceramic substrates, magnesium oxide adjusts the thermal expansion coefficient, improving thermal conductivity and high-temperature stability.

With the rapid growth of 5G communications, IoT, and new energy industries, demand for high-performance electronic ceramics continues to rise—and the application value of high-purity magnesium oxide will become even more prominent.
